Paddy Monaghan was the 1974 World Middleweight Bareknuckle Champion. Paddy founded the original Muhammad Ali Fan Club back in 1967 in outrage at Ali being stripped of the world title. 

Paddy managed to get 22,224 signatures (remember, this was in the days before the internet). He would petition and speak all over the world with a banner made from two broom handles, a white bedsheet & black duct tape with "Ali is our Champ" emblazoned on it.

Muhammad Ali and Paddy Monaghan became very close friends, indeed, Ali regarded Paddy as one of his own. Muhammad Ali would regularly visit the Monaghan's in their home in Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Paddy's son, Tyrone, is now the President of the Muhammad Ali Fan Club
